Look out, 5 This Habit is Bad for Your Bones!

Bone is an important part of the body. If you suffer from osteoporosis then the risk of fractures will be greater. Therefore, avoid some of these bad habits to lower the level of bone fragility and protect your health.
  • Smoke
According to studies, people who consume tobacco have lower bone density. This is caused by free radicals that kill cells that build bone function. In addition, smoking also increases the production of the hormone cortisol (known as the stress hormone) that can weaken the bones.

Meanwhile, if you experience a fracture, smoking can slow the healing process by damaging the blood vessels thus limiting the ability to move oxygen.
  • Inactive to move
According to Laila S. Tabatabai, MD, assistant professor at Houston Methodist and Weill Cornell Medical College, a person whose body is rarely moved at risk of bone loss faster.

As with muscles, bones become denser and grow stronger during exercise - especially during weight-bearing activities, walking, and climbing stairs. In addition, exercise can also help improve the balance and flexibility of the body.
  • Excessive consumption of salty foods
According to the director of endocrinology and bone disease program at John Wayne Cancer Institute, Frederik Singer, MD, high intake of salt intake correlates with lower bone density.

In fact, adult women are more likely to lose one percent bone density by eating one gram of sodium per day. The American Heart Association recommends to consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium daily.
  • Too much alcohol
Like smoking, alcohol increases the production of cortisol in the body. Alcohol also lowers testosterone and estrogen levels. Decreased levels of these two hormones result in decreased bone strength.
  • Less exposed to sunlight
Without vitamin D, bones can become thin and brittle. The problem is, one of the main sources of vitamin D is produced by the body after you are exposed to the sun. So, if you do not spend enough time outdoors, you may be deficient in vitamin D.

However, if you can not get out of the house to get vitamin D intake, you can get it from salmon or egg yolks.

Leave some of the bad habits that have been described to ensure bone health and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
