The proverbial eye is the window of the world of course there is a point. Vision is a vital function in living your daily life. But unfortunately many people ignore eye health and underestimate the symptoms that arise in the eye. Therefore, keep your eye health before it's too late in the following way:
1. Keep your diet
Make sure your dinner plate is filled with foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E so that you avoid various eye diseases such as macular degeneration (interference with the retina of the eye because of age) and cataracts.
You can get these substances from green vegetables (such as spinach, kale, etc.), high-omega-3 fish (such as salmon and tuna), eggs, nuts, and fruits such as lemons, oranges or strawberries.
2. Stop smoking
Smoking can increase your risk of developing various eye diseases such as cataracts, eye nerve damage and macular degeneration. In addition to quitting smoking, you can also avoid the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.
3. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun for long periods can cause damage to your eyes, increasing the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. For that, make sure your eyes are protected from the sun by using sunglasses that have protection against UV rays.
4. Not too long staring at your computer or phone screen
Seeing your computer or phone screen constantly can cause tired eyes, blurred vision, difficult vision focus, dry eyes, headache and neck and shoulder pain.
As recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology, do the 20/20/20 rule, ie every 20 minutes switch your view for 20 feet (about 6 meters) for at least 20 seconds.
5. Check your eyes regularly
To ensure your eyes are well-preserved, perform regular eye examinations every 6 months. Not all eye diseases have a complaint, such as glaucoma that often does not cause symptoms. With regular eye examinations, eye diseases can be detected early on.
Maintaining eyes health can start from changing the habits that you do everyday.
